Princess and her throne

As fulfilling as my photography journey has been on a personal level, I have also had the opportunity to “meet” some truly remarkable people both in person and online that have made my heart swell.  This fall I had the pleasure and honor of meeting Barb Uil of Jinky Art which was an absolute dream come true. She changed my life and my business! She has also created a community of photographers that is simply amazing. Feel free to browse the links below!

Of course every post needs an image 😉 It has been a very strange winter here. Unseasonable warm then cold with little snow and lots of ice. Luckily the sun has finally returned to us! We have enjoyed playing in the studio and here is my little princess on her throne <3

Leaping towards Spring

I am sure I am not alone, but cabin fever is certainly setting in! The days are getting longer and warmer however we know there are still a few months left in winter. The best way to beat those dreary weather blues, bring a little touch of spring into the studio. Of course with gorgeous outfits and lots of smiles it was the perfect mix <3

Get those files printed!

You have finally sat down with all your digital images and you are ready to get them printed! Woo hoo! You have painstakingly made your lists for printing and who you are gifting the prints to as well as where each image is going to be proudly displayed.  Then something strange happens. They don’t print the same and some images are cropped in a strange way.  What the heck???? Don’t worry, this is due to aspect ratio. Each camera photographs an image with a specific aspect ratio, which is the ratio of width to height.  Most digital camera’s photograph with an aspect ratio of 3:2 and this ratio create’s 4×6’s, 8×12’s etc. So any print outside that side is going to experience some cropping. It is inevitable. The lab I recommend allow’s you to choose how you want your image cropped so you can minimize the cropping of the good stuff. Of course, when we do your ordering session we will go over cropping and I can show you how cropping will affect your image based on the sizes you choose for printing. Here is a handy visual guide to help! The shaded area is where the image will be cropped when printing at that size 😀

Sun Drenched Maternity {Eagle River Maternity Photographer}

This was one of my favorite maternity sessions to date. The love they share is remarkable to witness in person. They are a gorgeously stunning couple and were a dream to photograph. We planned this session around the gorgeous light and I am so glad we did!

“Impressions from December 2014: a personal project”

‘Impressions‘ is a creative project by an eclectic group of female photographers from around the globe. We aim to share the inspiration behind what we do through our monthly posts.
On the 8th of each month, we will be sharing 8 images that tell the story of what inspired us in the previous weeks: our families, nature, weather, or maybe even work itself! We are free to explore the meaning of ‘impressions’, and it is likely to change month to month.

LOTS of our little friends have bunk beds. So the girls have been persistent in their requests for bunkbeds. I was excited to be taking time off during the same time as the school break to spend it with the girls and this new project allowed me to start my research at the typical Pottery Barn Kids, Land of Nod, Restoration Hardware and although I found my perfect dream bunkbeds the logistical practicality of living in Alaska won over. So then we started looking local and thought we could just build our own! Brilliant! Great plans online easy peasy. Um except no. We have no woodworking skills or tools and my plans and imagination tend to be HUGE and my awesome husband tends to believe no budget is too large. So we decided quickly we were in over our heads. Thank you Craigs List for coming to rescue. After much scrubbing, sanding, painting, and LOTS of TLC we were sooo excited to share the new room with the girls that they were going to be sharing. Insert crying mom moment here. In the excitement of new bedding, shopping for the beds, etc I failed to acknowledge that this would be the end of cribs/toddler beds and that my youngest would now be in a big girl bed. GAH. Mommy needed a moment to come to terms with this new milestone and massive transition. No more nursery or toddler room. After a few deep breaths I was able to bring the girls in and they were soooooooo excited. It was so much fun! The transition of sharing a room with two girls who are chatty and avoid sleep has been a challenge but I am sure it will get better. I just love the thought of all the adventures they will be plotting in these beds 😀

Now head over to Vinita to check out her month and gorgeous images. Enjoy the blog circle!
