Spring Break!

This has been such a strange winter weather wise! Mild temperatures with intermitent bone chilling weeks and a lack of snow. It has been tricky keeping the girls entertained outside. We had the chance to go to Homer for my husbands work for a quick overnight trip. Homer is a looooooong ways away but it is sooooo pretty and it was spring break so why not! The girls call Homer the beach and where we usually stay the beach house. The beach house is seasonal so I told them we would be staying somewhere new but we would still have plenty of fun adventures. They packed soccer balls, beach toys, sunglasses, Zoie wanted to buy new flip flops before I realized, OH they think it is summer at the beach. “Umm, sadly it is still winter but we are going to make the best of it!” Famous last mom words.

Homer is beautiful. I love everything about it. Finley’s wasn’t feeling well so she loved cuddling in the hotel room with dad watching cable tv (which is a novelty when you don’t have it lol). Zoie stayed with them while my mom and I drove to the spit and watched the surfer. Another reason why I love Alaska. I LOVE Alaskan’s. It was in barely into the double digits, 12 degree’s F, and this guy is out there surfing. It was so fun to watch with the snow capped mountains as a backdrop.

We grabbed Z and headed to dinner at Two Sisters, yummmmmy yummmmy food. Plus, paper on the table so she drew a fox eating blueberries and wrote a little story about him <3 Then we caught a freezing but lovely sunset. I just loved how much the waved sparkled!

The next morning we headed to the beach and it was windy and freezing.  Z loves beach combing and found a lone seashell which quickly became her prized possession. Beach combing is strange, on a frozen beach! The girls were troopers until Z got splashed with a wave and then the fun was over. F had no interest in the water or the waves. Too cold and I agree!

Homer is such a beautiful place even when it is freezing. I can not wait to go back this summer <3

Princesses in waiting.

When this sweet girl walked into the studio she asked if we get to pretend she and her mom are princesses for their session. Who am I to deny her of any princess opportunities 😉 I can not wait for my dear friend to deliver her baby soon and I know this darling girl is going to be a wonderful big sister <3 Such a gorgeous set of ladies and I know dad and brother are very lucky to have them. I am anxiously awaiting to see what new baby brings <3 2015-03-10_0002.jpg

“Impressions from January & February: a personal project”

‘Impressions‘ is a creative project by an eclectic group of female photographers from around the globe. We aim to share the inspiration behind what we do through our bi-monthly posts.
Every other month, we will be sharing 8 images that tell the story of what inspired us in the previous weeks: our families, nature, weather, or maybe even work itself! We are free to explore the meaning of ‘impressions’, and it is likely to change month to month.

During one of our recent and minimal snowfall’s I decided to photograph how much I LOVE the delicate flakes on the spruce. So so pretty. We have had a pretty mild winter with very minimal snow and temperatures all over the map! So I also had a chance to photograph early creek thaw’s. I love the edge where frozen meets the running water. My oldest will be 6 next month so I had to throw one in of her. I plan to document an image a day of her last month of being 5!! So here she is wearing my headband, she already loves borrowing my accessories, carefree in the snow flipping her lovely curls about her face. I adore her <3

I hope you enjoyed this months personal project head on over to my wonderful friend Antonina Mamzenko’s blog http://www.mamzenko.com/impressions-january-february-personal-project/ and view her lovely post. Keep clicking through the circle until you land back here <3

Reader

I love the nighttime reading sessions. I love that she enjoys reading to her sister even if she makes up stories as she goes <3 2015-03-10_0001.jpg

Five

Sappy post warning! Six. It sounds so old! I thought five sounded old too. In less than a month my oldest will be six. Six. It is a total cliche that time flies, but it sure does! She brings so much joy and spirit into my life. I am so blessed to be her mom and share this adventure with her. I am grateful for every single day. In the not too distant future she will will be spreading her wings and having her own adventures and I can’t even imagine the heart break mixed with pride that I am going to feel. So for now I will collect every moment and cherish every memory shared with her.

I plan on taking a photo a day of her for the last month she is 5. I am a little behind so today is a collection of spirited images. There is something so liberating and freeing about hair whipping or shaking. It’s like twirling. You can feel the wind and the movement and it is just about you being you. I love her curls. Her has never been cut and has always had side swoop with the bangs after her baby mullet grew out 😉 I love her lashes and how her eyes are less green version of mine <3 I love how her heart, her kindness, and her spirit just radiates around her <32015-03-08_0002.jpg
